Jazzy Jewish Roots Music at Zeider’s American Dream Theater
Bagels & Fraylox Klezmer Band will bring its rollicking brand of Jewish music to Virginia Beach Sunday, July 28. The fun starts at 4 p.m. in Zeider’s American Dream Theater, 4509 Commerce Street.
The six-piece band features wailing clarinets, accordion, saxophone, upright bass, drums and a vocalist who moonlights as a cantorial soloist. The group mixes lively wedding and party music of 19th century eastern Europe with strains of Yiddish theater and American dance band music of early 1900s. Then it adds influences from gypsy tunes, American folk music, rock, bluegrass, Latin grooves and hip-hop.
“Check your religion at the door – you don’t have to Jewish to dig Bagels & Fraylox Klezmer Band,” the Virginia Gazette newspaper wrote. “This is party music.”
Tickets are available at www.thez.org and at the door starting at 3 p.m. on July 28. Information is also available at the website of Tidewater Friends of Acoustic Music, which is presenting the concert. That web address is tidewateracoustic.com
