Christopher Newport University is dedicated to building a vibrant program in Jewish
Studies. Dr. Vered Sakal, an internationally renowned scholar of Jewish Studies, is leading
the effort as the Bertram and Gladys Aaron Endowed Professor of Jewish Studies. Sakal
is passionate about teaching and bringing Jewish Studies to life in the classroom. Her
interdisciplinary approach fosters students’ ability to connect to the material and makes
her classes engaging and vibrant.

Sakal grew up in Israel and is an ordained rabbi.
