POSITION TITLE: Camp Manager
AGENCY: United Jewish Federation of Tidewater (UJFT)
REPORTS TO: Assistant Camp Director
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time Exempt


Position Summary

The Camp Manager provides day-to-day operational leadership for Camp JCC, ensuring that camp programs run safely, smoothly, and in alignment with established policies and procedures. Reporting to the Assistant Camp Director, this role focuses on camp operations, staff support, logistics, and compliance. This is a hands-on role ideal for an experienced camp professional who excels at organization, communication, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

 

Operations & Logistics

  • Manage daily camp operations, including schedules, attendance, transitions, and use of space.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point person for operational, safety, and behavioral issues during camp hours.
  • Ensure implementation of camp policies, emergency procedures, and compliance with Virginia Department of Social Services regulations.
  • Oversee accurate documentation and records, including attendance, incident reports, and medication logs.
  • Support camp administration and family communication related to daily logistics in coordination with the Assistant Camp Director.

 

Staff Training & Supervision

  • Assist with staff onboarding, training reinforcement, scheduling, and coverage needs.
  • Support staff morale by addressing concerns, modeling professionalism, and reinforcing expectations.
  • Help manage performance issues and escalate concerns to the Assistant Camp Director as appropriate.

 

Program Support

  • Coordinate daily logistics including supplies, equipment, room setups, transportation details, and field trip readiness.
  • Ensure programs are properly staffed and resourced to run as planned.
  • Assist with preparation and breakdown for special events, theme days, and family-facing programs.

 

Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Represent Camp JCC at community events and outreach activities.
  • Build relationships with families, local schools, and community partners to promote year-round participation.


 

Qualifications Minimum Education/Experience

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience working with children, preferably in a camp or youth program setting.


 

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with both children and adults.
  • Creative program planning and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable with digital tools and camp management software.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
